“TOGETHER WE  REACH THE GOAL"

Mestre Luis Negao

José Luis Correia do Patrocínio was born in Salvador, Bahia on 31st October 1968.  In 1985 he began to learn street capoeira with his friends of the Rua Alto do Abaete in Itapuã, Salvador. Negão was graduated to Contra Mestre in 2005, and has been developing his work in Oxford, England. Here he founded Abolição Oxford Capoeira, with the philosophy of Capoeira Regional. He has organised workshops and classes in Universities and Colleges and in other European countries.  In 2005 he set up ProjetoCriançaRaízesdoAbaeté Bahia, for the children back in his own home town, which the Oxford group supports alongside the Abolição Hamburg group. Contra MestreNegão thanks MestresBamba, Xareu and Dinho for all they have taught him and to everyone else who has encouraged him to grow in Capoeira.

Formado Moska e Xaruto

In February 2003, Mosqueteiro (Tom Georgiou) and Xaruto (Jonny Hyams) set up an Abolição capoeira group in Hamburg, the Eastern Cape in South Africa. It was established in association with a local community initiative, the Keiskamma Art Project. Hamburg, on first impressions, is not much more than a scattering of houses and ‘shacks’. It is the last village at the end of a dirt road, and sits on the estuary of the Keiskamma River as it enters the Indian Ocean. The village is very poor, but the same factors responsible for the poverty (namely apartheid), have also meant that Hamburg has remained a traditional Xhosa village in many ways. The first time Hamburg saw capoeira was at a demonstration by Mosqueteiro and Xaruto

Instructor Zumbi

Instructor Zumbi started training capoeira at a young age in Hamburg, attending informal classes with Mosqueteiro and Xaruto while they visited the area. Capoeira soon became a big part of the lives of the the young people in Hamburg, and so the group was born. After a number of visits from CM Negão and students from England, students of Hamburg received gradings at Batizado events, and Instructors emerged. Instructor Zumbi moved to study at CPUT and having no access to a capoeira club locally, decided to establish one of his own, The Abolição South Africa CPUT Capoeira Society Club in 2012.  After a slow start, the group is growing in interest, and members. He offers great classes, tailored to your ability, which will help with fitness, flexibility, confidence, and will leave you feeling happy and energised.

Instructor Zumbi trained capoeira under Formado Mosqueteiro, Formado Xaruto, and Contra Mestre Negão. Contra Mestre Negão's capoeira line leads back to the origins of the style of Capoeria Regional, having trained under Mestre Orelha, whose master was Mestre Bamba, whose master was MestreBimba; the creator of Capoeira Regional. Instructor Zumbi has been involved in exchanges to Brazil and England in previous years, and has had the opportunity to train with, and learn a lot from, world renowned masters of Capoeira. With this in mind, you can be sure there is a lot to learn from him too.
